| As in previous years there will be a choice of 100 or 55 mile rides through the Exe Valley across Exmoor. Since this is our 21st Anniversary year, we are offering an additional ride of about 20 miles including an Exe crossing between Turf Locks and Exmouth. |
So that you will have the opportunity of enjoying a family event AND any of these rides, this year we have joined forces with 'Cycle Exeter' and will be running a 'Cycle Sunday Challenge' for the family on Sunday the 22nd June. |

The History
In 1997 Marc Millon and Nello Ghezzo cycled from Topsham to Venice to raise funds for three cancer charities, one of which was FORCE. Their 'Ride For Life' involved many local people and raised over £20,000. Tragically Nello died of cancer in 1999 and the Century Cycle Challenge was launched in his memory the following year. Some 90 friends took part in the inaugural challenge and the event has subsequently gone from strength to strength.
The 55 and 100 mile rides will start at the FORCE Cancer Support Centre and finish at Topsham RFC. For safety reasons and to avoid congestion, riders will be grouped for a phased start commencing 8.00am for the 100 mile ride and 8.30am for the 55 mile ride. Refreshment stops are available at Tiverton and Morchard Road for both rides and at Comer's Gate and South Molton for the 100 Mile ride. Confirmation of route details will be sent out from FORCE by post on Friday 13th June 2008. |
In 2007 there were over 450 riders who contributed over £34,000 to the work of FORCE Cancer Charity. Needless to say this event has become a beacon on the FORCE fund-raising calendar but it wouldn't happen without the support of countless volunteers and helpers. Where does my money go? All proceeds from this event will go to FORCE Cancer Charity which funds a Cancer Support Centre in Exeter, helps to purchase state of the art equipment and supports research through the Peninsula Medical School. In 2008/9 this vital work will cost in excess of £650,000 Who will benefit? FORCE Cancer Charity works locally to support anyone affected by cancer. If you know someone in this area who has had treatment for cancer they are almost certain to have benefited from the work of FORCE Cancer Charity. How do I enter? Online registration is now closed. Starting at the FORCE Cancer Support and Information Centre the route includes a ferry crossing between Exmouth and Turf and finishes at Topsham Rugby Football Club. A refreshment stop will be available at Exmouth.
When registering, riders will be able to indicate their preference as to their riding direction: either anticlockwise or clockwise. Ferry loading times for the Turf to Exmouth and Exmouth to Turf routes will be 10.30am and 2.00pm respectively. Riders should aim to arrive at the designated embarkation point in good time. Since the ferry has a limited capacity in each direction, the organisers may not be able to fulfill all riders directional preferences and where necessary will use their discretion. Booking early is therefore advised. Confirmation of route and direction details will be sent out from FORCE on Friday 13th June 2008. | |
Entertainment Party at Topsham Rugby Club - Noon til 8 pm. Prizes for best Sponsorship! If I'm not riding, how can I be involved? We are always seeking support personnel to help out on the day. Contact Roger Duggan on 01392 406166 to find out more. |
